Psychedelic Funk Blues Rock

Grootna was a Berkeley, California-based band formed in 1971 by vocalist Anna Rizzo, lead guitarist Vic Smith, pianist Richard Sussman, rhythm guitarist Slim Chance, bassist Kelly Bryan, and drummer Dewey DaGrease. The band acquired well-known San Francisco concert promoter Bill Graham as their manager and signed with Columbia Records. Their self-titled debut album was released in December 1971. It failed to chart. Grootna continued to perform around the Bay Area in the summer of 1972, before disbanding. Their music was a typical Columbia jazz-rock-soul-pop hybrid, with a touch of funk.

1 megjegyzés:

  1. Another obscure band from the SF Bay Area, circa early 1970s. Don't remember much, if anything, about them, but the presence of Austin DeLone (formerly of Eggs Over Easy and countless side gigs) make it worth investigating. Appreciated!
