One of the most famous Dutch bands is the in The Hague formed Shocking Blue. The band released some of their best selling hits all around the world, including the still standing "Venus". It's is just one of the many songs that can be found on this two-CD singles collection. The first part contains 28 songs and the second part contains 24 songs. Robbie Van Leeuwen, the great composer, and Mariska Veres, the inimitable singer, offer sheer musical delight on this essential compilation album, which is a perfect introduction to all other albums by Shocking Blue.
Shocking Blue reformed with its most famous line-up in 1979 and recorded "Louise" as their first single since their break-up in 1974. The song was never released. The band attempted another comeback in 1984 and released a new single "The Jury and the Judge" with "I Am Hanging on to Love" as the B-side in 1986. In 1994, the single "Body and Soul" was released.
"Mariska Veres (The Hague, October 1, 1947 – The Hague, December 2, 2006) is a Hungarian-born Dutch singer, songwriter, singer. His father is the Hungarian gypsy violinist (lead) Lajos Veres, his mother is German, and his maternal grandparents are of French and Russian origin."

Bernie Fieldings was born on August 14, 1946, and was the vocalist for the band. He died on March 13, 2005, at the age of 58.

Don Van Vliet born Don Glen Vliet; January 15, 1941 – December 17, 2010), known by his stage name Captain Beefheart, was an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist. Conducting a rotating ensemble known as the Magic Band, he recorded 13 studio albums between 1967 and 1982. His music blended elements of blues, free jazz, rock, and avant-garde composition with idiosyncratic rhythms, absurdist wordplay, and Vliet's gravelly singing voice with a wide vocal range.
Bluejeans & Moonbeams is the ninth LP by Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band, released in 1974.

The musicians in this version of the Magic Band appear on no other Beefheart album. 
The musicians behind the song "Captain's Holiday" are from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Chuck Blackwell - drums, Steve Hickerson - guitar, Richard Feldman - bass and Walt Richmond - piano. The track was reportedly found on a discarded reel in the studio. The harmonica on the track is not played by Captain Beefheart (by his own admission).

Methuselah was an English rock band, founded and active in the 1960s. This late 60s group made two albums for Elektra but only the one above, which inevitably is now quite rare and sought-after, was released. Methuselah's released album has folk, R&B gospel and even pop influences in its melodies and vocals. The best tracks are "John", with astonishing guitar leads from Les Nicol the folky "High In The Tower Of Coombe" the gospel-influenced "My Poor Image" and "Fireball Woman". The French children’s song "Frere Jaques" is sung in French at the start and finish of the album, the second time with church choir-like vocals and some jazzy instrumentation in the middle segment. Les Nicol also played with other British musicians on the second Pavlov's Dog album.

Heavy Blues Rock with Prog Shades

This is a progressive rock trio from Finland, originally released in 1971. Their album comprised bluesy progressive rock with electric guitar and organ to the fore and sung in English. Their sound is typical of the Scandinavian stuff of the time being somewhat influenced by that Nordic folk sound, but also they had a heavy blues base to their music. The main instrument used is the Hammond organ, as there is lot's of manic playing. There is also some nice guitar.
