In 1971, King released his first self-titled solo album on United Artists. It was accompanied by B.B. Blunder (ex-Blossom Toes) and Mighty Baby (former band members), along with other guest musicians such as Mick Taylor, Steve Winwood, Brian Auger, Danny McCulloch and others.

It was recorded in Paris, France, and initially released under the band name Head West with minimal distribution, primarily in France and Canada. The album blends genres such as psychedelic rock, funk rock, blues rock, and progressive rock, with a strong emphasis on organ-driven sound. Bob Welch became famous with Fleetwood Mac after this Head West period, nevertheless the band and their only album left overlooked till today.

The End was a British psychedelic pop band formed in 1965, originally managed and produced by Bill Wyman. In 1969, the band released their only album, Introspection. After the group split up, three of its members founded Tucky Buzzard, who recorded three unsuccessful albums in the 1970s.
