The band was formed by lead singer Domingo "Sam" Samudio, better known by his stage name Sam the Sham (February 28, 1937 in Dallas, Texas, United States) in 1961. They were active until 1967 and were associated with genres such as garage rock, rock and roll, and proto-punk. The original lineup of the band included Carl Miedke, Russell Fowler, Omar "Big Man" Lopez, and Vincent Lopez.
However, the lineup changed over time, and the band consisted of members like Andy Kuha, Anthony Gerace, Billy Bennett, Butch Gibson, David Martin, Frank Carabetta, Jerry Patterson, Ray Stinnett, and Sam Samudio. Some of their other notable songs include "The Hair on My Chinny Chin Chin" and "Betty and Dupree".
The band toured the world as a supporting act for The Beach Boys, Peter And Gordon, James Brown, Sonny And Cher, and many others. Sam the Sham, known for his camp robe and turban, would haul his equipment in a 1952 Packard hearse with maroon velvet curtains.

Bo Diddley - The Black Gladiator (1970/2012) Future Days Recordings FDR 600

MP3/320Kbs/85MB
Blues-rock incorporating Funk and Soul elements

Bo Diddley's album "The Black Gladiator" was released in June 1970 and marked a shift in his musical style, incorporating funk and soul elements while retaining his blues roots. It was recorded in response to the changing music scene of the late 1960s, where Bo Diddley aimed to modernize his blues-rock sound with a funk edge. The album includes ten tracks, with notable songs such as "Elephant Man", "I've Got A Feeling", "Funky Fly" and "I Don’t Like You" which showcase Diddley's humor and musical prowess. The cover art features Bo Diddley wearing a leather belt and a pseudo-S&M outfit, which was a bold statement at the time. There are raw gospel shouts, ripping guitar, fatback drums, gritty Hammond organ, and even a round of the dozens with Cookie Vee. (Cookie Vee, whose real name was Cornelia Redmond-Chavez, was a background singer and performer who toured with Bo Diddley for over 25 years.)

Tracks:
1. Elephant Man 4:28
2. You, Bo Diddley 3:30
