Birth Control - Hoodoo Man (1972/1999) Limited Edition - KDCD 017

MP3/320Kbs/110MB
krautrock, heavy prog
Amongst the longest running bands of German rock, Birth Control were formed way back in 1968 in Berlin, known for their progressive hard rock sound and provocative album covers. They chose their rather controversial name as a stab at Pope Paul's anti birth control policy. "Birth Control's third release, 1972's "Hoodoo Man", is where everything really started to come together for the band. "Hoodoo Man" was one of their first albums to really start implementing progressive rock elements, perhaps in part due to new keyboard player Wolfgang Neuser. There's a very cool variety of combinations of the musicians playing off each-other, and along with a more expansive production, lengthier instrumental runs and more clever and exciting arrangements, the band delivered their best album to date." (Trane)

blues rock with jazzy mood

Key Largo are a prime example of the many fine, small semi-pro bands that never made the big time. - Mike Vernon
Key Largo may best be described as a group of musicians seeking to create something fresh and unique within the supposed musical boundaries of what most people would simply term blues state the sleeve notes to their album. In fact what's on offer is pretty British blues rock produced by Mike Vernon, and released through the Blue Horizon label with lots of harmonica, percussion and brass arrangements in places. The album includes cover versions of Willie Dixon, Alain Toussaint, B.B.King and P. Mayfield songs.
Tracks include the soul/funk orientated “Give It Up” with a brass arrangement; the slow number “As The Years Go Passing By”, which features some good blues guitar work, and “Come On And Get It Baby”, written by thirties English pianist Stanley Black - an instrumental with jazzy electric piano, sharp guitar chords and percussion by Kenny Lamb who later went on to Jellybread. Grand Funk released six platinum and seven gold-certified albums between their recording debut in 1969 and their first disbandment in 1976.

Dutch band Mr. Albert Show, apparently named after a roadie, was formed in 1969 by Bertus Borgers (saxophone, flute, vocals), Roeland Boogaart (drums), Tom Fautubun (bass), Eric Lintermans (guitars) and Bonki Bongaerts (organ). Strengthened by the vocal talents of Floortje Klomp they make their debut with the single "Wild Sensation" in 1970, followed by their full length debut album "Mr. Albert Show" later the same year. The following their sophomore effort "Warm Motor" appeared, while the non-album single "Show Me Your Tongue" was released in support of it.
This would prove to be the final release by this short-lived band, who disbanded in 1973 following the departure of Bertus Borgers.

MP3/320Kbs/105MB
Progressive/Blues/Jazz Rock

Not to be confused with Dr. Feelgood, the UK pub-rock group, this is an LP by Doctor Feelgood, an unrelated American outfit specializing in moody, heavy blues-rock and obscurity. That band's lone 1971 LP, which features strong psychedelic blues-rock in the spirit of early Tull, and a woodwind player clearly influenced by both Ian Anderson and free-jazz, is long out of print on vinyl and long sought after by serious heads. (lpcdreissues) I can only recommend it!

Paladin (1971/2007) Esoteric Records - ECLEC2005

MP3/320Kbs/101MB
progressive rock mix of rock, blues, soul, jazz

Paladin was a British progressive rock band which released two albums on the Bronze Records label. They played in venues across the UK as they worked to develop their sound, performing a mix of rock, blues, soul, jazz, and Latin music. Paladin's use of dual keyboards also created a unique sound. These performances were noticed by Bronze Records (who also recorded Uriah Heep and Manfred Mann). On January 8, 1971, Paladin entered Olympic Studios in London to record their debut eponymous first album, produced by Philamore Lincoln. The reviews were good, but the sales were disappointing... The group disbanded near the end of 1972.

Virus - Thoughts (1971/1991) Pilz 2021102-9

MP3/320Kbs/92MB
progressive rock

German progressive rock band from Bielefeld, active in the early 1970s.
Virus were a psychedelic band originating from Bielefeld in Northern Germany. They released only two albums "Revelation" (1970) and "Thoughts" (1971). The album was recorded in Star Studios, Hamburg and produced by Konrad Plank. The Virus lineup for the first album is: Werner Monka (guitar), Jörg-Dieter Krahe (organ), Bernd "Molle" Hohmann (vocals, flute), Reinhold Spiegelfeld (bass) and Wolfgang Rieke (drums).
The second album "Thoughts" is a big change from their first one. The lineup change considerably as well, leaving only Krahe and Rieke from the original group. The new members were: Axel Nieling (drums), Jürgen Schäfer (bass, vocals), Bernd Rösner (guitar) and Werner Vogt (bass, guitar, vocals). In this album they abandoned their long tracks and space rock and psychedelic nature. This album presents a more mainstream approach with blues rock songs. Therefore this would not be of interest for those looking them for their psychedelic and progressive sound.

01. King Heroin - 5:36
02. Manking, Where Do You Go? (Virus/Virus) - 4:58
03. Theme - 0:22

Pollution (1971 Vinyl) Prophesy Records - SD 6051

MP3/320Kbs/86MB
jazz-funk/soul

Pollution were an American jazz-funk/soul band from Los Angeles that released two eponymous albums on Prophesy Records in 1971/72. The music on both releases is soul-inspired rock with horns and occassional nods to country rock. I wouldn't call it psychedelic but it definitely draws on 60s era rock as well as period social concerns. The first album is is the funkiest of the two, in part because of the contribution of Dobie Gray, who has a much more soulful sound than the vocalists on the 2ns album. Tinariwen (ⵜⵏⵔⵓⵏ) - Amadjar (2019) Wedge - CD00119

MP3/320Kbs/129MB
mix of blues, rock and traditional Tuareg music (world music)

"Music is perhaps the most universal of the performing arts and is found in every society, most often as an integral part of other performing art. Excellence in music performance involves two major components like a genuine understanding of what the music is about, its structure and meaning, and a complete mastery of the instrumental technique."
Amadjar is the eighth album by the Tuareg band Tinariwen, released on September 6, 2019. The album's title means "the foreign traveler" in the Tamashek language.
Tinariwen (Tamasheq: ⵜⵏⵔⵓⵏ; with vowels ⵜⵉⵏⴰⵔⵉⵡⵉⵏ; plural of ténéré meaning "desert") is a collective of Tuareg musicians from the Sahara region of southern Algeria and of northern Mali, in the region of Azawad. canterbury sound

Compilation from "Hatfield and the North" and "The Rotters' Club" from 1974 and 1975, added single from 1974, and some live recordings.
Hatfield and the North were an experimental Canterbury scene rock band. Formed in October 1972 to June 1975, some reunions thereafter (1990, 2005)
Excellent band from the Canterbury school, with extreme explored musicianship, led by the ex Caravan leader and bass player Richard Sinclair. His strong and characteristic vocals add a lot to the music, already rich in instrumentation. Keyboardist Dave Stewart is another big player here, bringing up the atmosphere with his valve saturation driven keyboard sounds.

The first three albums of the band LGT

MP3/320Kbs/300MB
prog rock, classic rock

Locomotiv GT (often abbreviated LGT, and sometimes using the nickname Loksi) was a Hungarian rock band formed in 1971. Starting out as a progressive rock band, they later experimented with many other styles including jazz, funk, and pop. During their heyday they were one of Hungary's most popular rock bands. The band broke up in 2016 after the death of longtime singer/bassist Tamás Somló......
Their self-titled debut album was released in December 1971, and their second album Ringasd el magad was released the following year. The band's third album Bummm! was released in 1973. Tamás Barta left the band and defected to the United States, which then caused the Hungarian government to ban Bummm! for the next ten years in retaliation. (Barta was murdered in the United States under mysterious circumstances in 1982.)...

pop-rock, progressive rock

Madman Across The Water is the fourth studio album by English musician Elton John, released on 5 November 1971 by DJM and Uni Records. The album was his third album to be released in 1971, at which point John had been rising to prominence as a popular music artist. John's first progressive rock album. Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman plays Hammond organ on three songs. The album was included in Robert Dimery's 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
The bonus of the album contained a longer version of "Razor Face", which extended the song-ending jam to 6:42 instead of the early fade on the original album and the longer version of "Madman Across The Water" to 8:50. Excellent edition... I can recommend!...

MP3/320Kbs/182MB
rock, reggae, funk / soul

Cymande are a British funk group that was originally active in the early 1970s. The band name derives from a calypso word for "dove", which symbolises peace and love, "Dove" is also the title of one of their best-known songs. With a membership deriving from several Caribbean nations, Cymande were noted for an eclectic mix of funk, soul, reggae, rock, African music, calypso, and jazz that they called "nyah-rock". The band formed in 1971 and released three albums before disbanding in 1974. After gaining newfound popularity when their music was sampled by many notable rap artists, Cymande reformed in the 2010s.
***
